Bicycle II 6x6 in oil

The shadows that the bicycle makes just fascinates me.   Because it is next to impossible to get this view point while being at my easel, I have been using photos of the bicycle in my studio then putting the computer next to my easel and viewing the photo from the screen.

"My Bicycle" 6x6 in oil

This bicycle has carried me all over Chicago and even into one pothole up there and is now liking its home in Louisville Ky.   I have dusted it off and getting it ready for transport this season.   I have been having visions of a bicycle in a painting so I thought I would try painting the image.  The challenge to me would be to come up with more compositions of this subject.

"Center of attention" 6x6 in oil

All of a sudden little Miss Red Tulip had to be the center of attention, in the limelight, at the head of the class with all eyes on her!   She could not explain it, she could not tell you why, fools give you  reasons and wise men.....  I digress.    Anyway, there she was the center of attention.  Again.
The tulips were opening and soaking up life.

"Three bottles of oil" 6in x 6in oil

I just came back from a short trip to Chicago, visited with friends and attended a one day workshop given by Alabama Chanin.  When I get my project done I will post.

This painting was not going well because I was using small brushes.   I was about to wipe it off when I thought... "What have I got to lose, I will just use a big brush and have fun"   So I got out a large brush took off my glasses and painted value and color.   I put a few finishing touches on with that small brush and I am quite happy with how this one turned out.

"Three red roses with buds" 6" x 6" oil

I went to store to get Tulips but they did not have any so I got this cute little rose plant instead.  The day has just not gone as I had planned.   Then I upgraded to a new version of Mac and everything in iPhoto is different!!   Kinda frustrating!    Everything is taking longer to get done today.   So I am going with the flow.......

"Paint Mediums?" 6" x 6" oil

These are some more paint mediums... or are they?    Can you pick the one that is not used in oil painting?  These are fun to paint, it is sort of like painting bourbon but with more variations.

This is an outfit that I made by hand using the Alabama Chanin sewing techniques.   The jacket took hundreds of hours starting with designing the jacket, stenciling the design on the fabric, hand sewing around the design then cutting out the top layer of fabric and hand sewing it all together.   Then there was the binding, beading and pleating the trim.   I love doing this kind of work in the evenings and weekends.   It is truly a labor of love.   If I were to sell it the cost would be around $6000.   But it is not for sale.

"Tulips, take two" 8" x 8" oil

No, seriously take two, because I have plenty!  So while I have them I am painting them.   I just love these red ones!  While at the store looking over the selection of tulips at first I wanted red and then I thought, "don't be so narrow minded" and considered the other colors but I just kept coming back to the red ones.   Love that red and green!

Tulips, a bakers dozen 8" x 8" oil

Couldn't resist these beautiful red tulips at Trader Joe's.   I photographed it 4 different times because I kept seeing something that was not right on the photo.   Funny how I don't see it in the painting itself but when I look at the photo of the painting the flaw really stands out.   I'm over it!   Not painting it again!   Not today anyway.

Here one of the projects I have been working on when I am not painting.   Please check it out on my other blog page.

"Daffodils and Strawberries" 12" x 12" oil

Before I painted this I had visions of loose brushstrokes, almost impressionistic in application but got a case of nit-pickitus while painting even despite the larger size.    In the end I removed my eye glasses and painted what I saw which was not much.   I think it is an improvement.

"Last part of a paint job, 7 letters" 8" x 8" oil

All of you who are painters will figure out the answer to that clue.   Hint:  it starts with a c and ends with a p.    It is fabulous here today, sunny and almost 60° and I should be at the dog park with my little one.    Happy Easter!!

What is that word I'm looking for? 8" x 8" oil

This time I painted the crossword without making an extensive grid!   And it did take less time and I like the looser look.

"Finishing a Crossword" 8" x 8" oil

The process in which I get the crossword grid accomplished is so tedious that tomorrow I am going to try another approach.   I started this painting two days ago but got interrupted with a house matter.
