"Town Branch" 6in x 6in oil

This is a very nice bourbon, but my favorite thing about this, to me, is the square bottle.   So elegant.

"Woodford in the light" 6in x 6in oil

I don't know how popular Woodford Reserve is in the rest of the country but it is very popular here in Kentucky.    I am painting some bourbons in preparation for the St James Art fair here in Louisville.

"Straight up Blanton's" 6in x 6in oil

Blanton's is a great bourbon.   Not only that, but you can collect the stoppers.   On each stopper is a different horse/jockey image and imprinted a letter.    If you collect them they can spell out BLANTON'S.    Besides being a collectors item, it is a wonderful smooth bourbon, one of the tops on my list.

"Dude in a hat" 11in x 14in oil

Someone brought a hat today, when he put it on he decided he looked good in the hat.
I started this 3 hour sketch with a very loose gesture drawing using paynes grey, covering all the shadow areas.   It made for a quick map to show where the light and dark areas were.  All this was done in the first 15 minutes.  That left the rest of the time to play with color/value.

"Woodford reflection" 6in x 6in oil

Bourbon is considered by Congress to be "America's Native Spirit".   Whiskey can be made anywhere, but to be called bourbon, it must be made in the U.S.    95% of the world's bourbon is made in Kentucky.   When I go to the liquor store there are so many to choose from, well over 100, it's confusing.   This one is Woodford Reserve.

"Brownie Hawkeye" 6in x 6in oil

Many pictures were taken in the 1950's at my house with this little camera.   Besides being part of my past, I love it's cute cube shape, and there is something about looking into the glass viewfinder and seeing everything upside down that is fascinating.

"Empty Bowl" 6in x 6in oil

This is the third in the series of 6.   This one is smaller than the first two.   The challenge is to use the same objects in 6 painting.   This is a good method for learning composition.

"Standing guard" 8in x 8in oil

This was the demo for my Tuesday class.   On Monday, we talked about painting  the same objects at least 6 times which forces you to think about composition and design.  So here is my second one.

"What makes Red so special?" 8in x 8in oil

All the other plump plums are standing around wondering why Red is so special, why does he get to sit in the green chair?

This was my demo painting for my Monday class.  I felt a little out of practice!   Yikes!
